2014 - 2015 Comprehensive Plan Review

During the regular meeting on March 24, 2014, the Planning Commission initiated the current review of the Comprehensive Plan.  Due to the scope of a project such as this, a Subcommittee was formed to review the comprehensive plan and update the Planning Commission on a regular basis.

The Planning Commission voted to establish the following objectives of the 2014-2015 Comprehensive Plan Review:

-Review/Update Goals Section

-Update Data Appropriately

-Establish Priority Investment Components: link land use policy with fiscal policy

-Establish a Coordination Element

-Establish a Framework for Measuring Performance

What is the Comprehensive Plan?

The comprehensive plan is a statement of Oconee County's goals for setting the course for the future. The comprehensive plan inventories existing conditions, states the needs and goals of the community, and provides implementation strategies for reaching the goals stated in the plan. Each local plan must include the following elements (chapters): population, economic development, natural resources, cultural, community facilities, housing, land use, transportation, and a priority investment element. State law requires that Comprehensive Plan be reviewed at least every five years and updated every ten years.  The Comprehensive Plan represents a long-term view, 10-20 years, or a strategic approach to making the community's vision for the future a reality .
