Community Development

Who We Are:

The Community Development Department consists of three divisions charged with the implementation of state and local land use and development management standards. The Addressing Division has day-to-day oversight of addressing and road naming activities in Oconee County established under the E-911 Addressing requirements. The Building Codes Division permits and inspects construction for both the unincorporated areas of the county, and those municipalities contracting with the County for the service. The Planning and Zoning Division is responsible for carrying out all long-range and short-term planning activities for the unincorporated areas of the county, to include issuing land use and zoning permits, conducting subdivision and plat reviews, and coordinating comprehensive planning activity.

Our Mission:

Protect life and property in Oconee County by properly applying and administering the State of South Carolina’s required Building Codes and Oconee County’s Land Use Regulations. We will accomplish this in a pro-customer, pro-business and pro-development manner that enhances quality of life and protects our natural, cultural, and historical resources.
