Code Enforcement

The objective of Code Enforcement is to promote a clean, healthy, and safe environment for the citizens of Oconee County. The Division is achieving this objective through the enforcement of local ordinances related to property maintenance.

Which Codes Do We Enforce?

The current code utilized by the department is the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC). The IPMC was adopted by Oconee County, which regulates the minimum maintenance requirements for existing structures and property. Oconee County’s code is a maintenance document intended to establish minimum maintenance standards for basic equipment, light, ventilation, heating, sanitation and fire safety. Responsibility is fixed among owners, operators and occupants for code compliance. The code provides for the regulation and safe use of existing structures in the interest of the social and economic welfare of the community. The County does NOT enforce private covenants and restrictions. The County does NOT provide code enforcement within the municipal boundaries of Salem, Walhalla, West Union, Westminster, or Seneca. All noise related complaints are within the jurisdiction of the Oconee County Sherriff’s department, contact information below.
