Monday, August 7 @ 2pm the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office will honor all who received a Purple Heart with a Drop-In. This will be at the VA Office at 223C Kenneth Street, Walhalla, SC.  For additional information call our office at 638-4231.

 

At the recent OCVC (Oconee County Veterans Council) meeting Dan Alexander, Twanda Davidson and Sheila Ford spoke about Vocational Rehab and what they offer.  There will be a drop in at the Oconee County Vocational Rehabilitation office at 1951 Wells Highway November 7 9am - 12 noon. Everyone is invited. If you know of someone or you would benefit with their services please plan to attend.

A Veteran & Students Unite Program was proposed by Ms. Patty Grant with James M. Brown Elementary School. Her vision is to pair a student up with a veteran so that students may learn more about the freedoms we enjoy.

WHENLIFESUCKS.org is an origination raising awareness for veterans with PTSD. Iraq veteran, Patrick Elswick will be hiking across SC from Walhalla to Charleston to raise money for this program.  Anyone who would like to join him for a portion of his walk is welcome to do so. 

Patriots Hall has been awarded a grant from Oconee County and is able t o be open 3 days per week. Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am till 4pm.

VIETNAM 50th ANNIVERSARY

The Oconee County Veterans Council and the VA Office have teamed up with the Department of Defense in recognizing the "commemoration" of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

In that regard the last event of the 3 year events will be held November 9 - November 13, 2017.

The VIETNAM MOVING WALL will be in Oconee County and open for visitors during this time. An opening ceremony will be Friday morning, November 10, 2017 at 10am.

"American Pride', A 'Stantler Brothers' Tribute Band will preform the National Anthem. They will preform a concert that night at the Mountain Lakes Center Of Performing Arts (Walhalla Civic Auditorium). All veterans will be admitted free of charge. Show starts at 7:30 with doors opening at 6:30.

Persons retired from the military. 

Veterans enrolled in the Veterans health care system.
