Aircraft

All aircraft are registered through The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA sends a list of all registered owners to the Department of Revenue (DOR), and the DOR sends a list to the Auditor’s Office annually. We also work closely with our County Airport to ensure all aircraft that have a situs in Oconee County are taxed as well.

Forms are mailed to owners to verify the information that is sent to the Auditor’s Office from the DOR and County Airport. This form must be completed on or before April 30th of the taxable year.

Prior to the 2011 Tax Year, aircraft were assessed at 6% of market value, but effective July 1, 2011, Oconee County Council approved the lowering of the assessment ratio to 4% for Tax Years 2011 and beyond.
